Node reference
Ethereum block number
Read the latest block number
Ethereum block number reads the latest block height from the selected network. Use it to check the RPC connection or record when a read occurred.
Try it step by step#
- Choose Cloud RPC and enable Test mode for test data, or turn it off for live data.
- Connect Start → Ethereum block number and run once.
- Inspect blockNumber and network. Run again later to observe how the height changes.
What to expect#
The result includes blockNumber as a decimal string and the selected network. It does not include the block’s transactions or timestamp.
Things to check#
- An unchanged height across quick runs is possible; a new block may not have arrived yet.
- The node checks the RPC chain ID against the selected network. Correct the RPC settings if they disagree.
